Red White and Blue Series

During a workshop, in 2012, I stood in one of the galleries of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was gallery number 753- “Era of Revolution.” I was confronted and surrounded by portraiture of men deemed to be heroes, such as George Washington. All I could see were obscene gestures and imperialist stances. My reaction was to dismember, dethrone, and recreate these figures. I wanted to change them physically, by manipulating the images, and also change the perception of what these figures stand for.
